Police Officer of the Year - Stason Wiete
West Lafayette Police Department honored one of their own at the February West Lafayette City Council meeting as Officer Stason Wiete received the department's first ever Officer of the Year award.

Officer Stason Wiete is presented the 2008 Officer of the Year award by Police Merit Commission Vice-president Dr. Don Corrigan as Chief Dombkowski and the City Council look on. This was the first time the department has presented the award.
Officer Wiete was presented the award by Dr. Don Corrigan Vice-President of the Police Merit Board and WLPD Chief Jason Dombkowski as Mayor John Dennis, and the City Council looked on.
Wiete was commended for his work ethic by the Chief and has been sited as a "prime example for his peers to follow" by his commanding officers Dombkowski said. Wiete made more than 375 traffic stops and more than 80 arrests during 2008.
In accepting the award, Wiete said that he was honored and "Everyday I just go out and do my job the best I can. That is what I do."
Wiete's wife Lesley, a sergeant with the Purdue Police Department, along with their daughter, family and a good number of Stason's fellow officers were on hand to enjoy the award ceremony.
