NCNA Receives West Lafayette Beautification Award

The April 2009 West Lafayette Beautification Award has been presented to the New Chauncey Neighborhood Association (NCNA) for the group's efforts in making the neighborhood a brighter place for the residents and visitors to this portion of the City.

The New Chauncey Neighborhood Association began in 2001 when the first organized planting was
planned. Fifty plots identified and 200 Stella d’Oro daylilies purchased. A
crew of 20 neighbors headed up by co-presidents DeAnn Baker and Carl Griffin tended the baby plants, watering, weeding and protecting them from foot traffic.

The following year another 250 daylilies were purchased and planted. In the years to follow, all new plants came from division of these hardy perennials.

The NCNA was aided by a generous donation from John Basham.

In 2007, the neighborhood undertook a major landscaping rehabilitation at the corner of Fowler and Littleton. Scott Mills and Carl Griffin led the joint effort with the City to beautify this area where students wait for the bus, and many pedestrians pass by.
