Congratulations to Indiana’s
2009 Mr. Football
New Chauncey’s own Daniel Wodicka!
After leading the Westside Red Devils to the Class 3A state championship this season and being named the Phil Eskew Mental Attitude Award winner, Daniel Wodicka has been selected as Indiana’s Mr. Football for 2009. He received 22 of the 51 votes with the second place finisher receiving just 9.
Wodicka is only the second player from a non-Class 4A or 5A school to win Mr. Football and is the second Tippecanoe county player to ever be named Mr. Football. Clayton Richard won the award in 2002.
It was the school’s first football state championship since 1993 and the team went undefeated beating Evansville Memorial 24-10 at Lucas Oil Stadium for the championship. Wodicka rushed for 115 yards, passed for another 158 yards, and as the free safety on defense added four tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery in the victory . In addition to having a key role on both sides of the ball on the grid iron, Daniel also plays point guard on the basketball team and plays the outfield on the baseball team.
Daniel, a 4.0 GPA senior in the Class of 2010 and New Chauncey resident is considering Carnegie-Mellon, Case Western (where his brother James is currently a Junior), University of Chicago, and Johns Hopkins among others to study engineering.
