Winter Weather Tips
As winter weather approaches, take a moment to inventory your winter weather gear.
Here are some items you will want to have on hand:
- Several layers of lightweight, warm clothing. Dressing in layers helps keep you warmer.
- A hat to prevent body heat loss from your head.
- Scarves and hoods.
- Mittens that fit snugly at the wrists. Mittens are better than gloves because they keep your fingers together.
- Boots or shoes that provide good traction. It gets icy at times, and you’ll be glad to have them.
To reduce your exposure, consider using CityBus or driving when it is necessary to go out in the cold. The best choice is to plan your outings to the store during the day and when the wind is calm.
Remember to put your winter weather kit in your car. The kit could include:
- a shovel
- windshield scraper and small broom
- flashlight
- battery powered radio
- extra batteries
- water
- snack food
- matches
- extra hats, socks and mittens
- First aid kit with pocket knife
- blanket(s)
- tow chain or rope
- road salt and sand
- booster cables
- emergency flares
- fluorescent distress flag
Be smart and stay warm and dry.
