Welcome Back Picnic Rocks the Block!
NCNA closed out the Saturday before classes start with a picnic and concert kindly hosted by Bruce and Pam Applegate at their Hayes Street
home. The hot dogs were grilled by our our Carl Griffin with the rest of the food provided by the Applegates and neighbors as a way of welcoming the students back to the neighborhood.

The turnout was good with undergrads, exchange students, graduate students, faculty/staff members and area residents all joining in the fun. The conversations were fast paced and interesting, the food was terrific, and the music and was great.

The Music
The entertainment began with an acoustic
performance by Ryan Dill who is typically the drummer in his band. He energized the crowd and was joined by Klopecks rhythm guitarist Derek Hadden for the final few scores.

the Klopecks
After a brief intermission, an up and coming local band, the Klopecks took the stage and covered some great Rock 'n Roll hits from The Who, Rod Stewart, Chicago, and John Lennon to name few.

Sarah Applegate and Derek Hadden handle the vocals with Jason Stitz (drums), Jeff Stitz (lead guitar), Nathan Harebeck (bass), and Mike Thomas (keyboards) rounding out the group.
Thanks to everyone who made this event possible by joining in, bringing a dish to share, and helping out. Special thanks to the Applegates for the use of their yard, to Carl Griffin and family for their support (grills, cooking, chairs, etc.), and Vicki Leavitt and Tami Hammack for the invitations and coordination.
